当Frodo感觉到黑暗渐渐占据了她的灵魂的时候，他只能告诉自己只要魔戒被吞噬，时光便如旧，一切黑暗和恐惧都会随之消失。
所以当Sam diss Gollum的时候，他充满怜悯地说：
You have no idea what it did to him, what it’s still doing to him. I want to help him Sam…Because I have to believe he can come back.因为他感同身受。
Gollum就是他的未来，Gollum现在的万劫不复就是他未来的万劫不复。所以无论Gollum看起来多么无药可救，他都不得不相信他有一天可以重回光明。因为他多么希望自己可以回到从前的样子啊。
不负众望，Frodo完成了使命，他成功保住了Shire的茵茵绿草、言笑晏晏，Sam可以和爱的人结婚生子，Aragorn可以和Arwen白头偕老，中土世界摆脱了黑暗战争的阴影，进入第四世纪。
只是这一切的美好再也与Frodo无关。
