Elizabeth Bennet: I thought you were in London. Mr. Darcy: No... No. I'm not. Jane Bennet: Yes. A thousand times yes. Caroline Bingley: I can't help thinking that at some point someone is going to produce a piglet and we'll all have to chase it. Caroline Bingley: Goodness, did you walk here Miss Bennet? Elizabeth Bennet: I did. Caroline Bingley: Charles. You cannot be serious. Jane Bennet: He is just what a young man ought to be. Charlotte Lucas: Mr. Collins and I are engaged. Elizabeth Bennet: Engaged? Elizabeth Bennet: To be married? Charlotte Lucas: Yes, Lizzie, what other kind of engaged is there? Oh, for heaven's sake, Lizzie, don't look at me like that. There is no earthly reason why I shouldn't be as happy with him as any other. Elizabeth Bennet: But he's ridiculous. Charlotte Lucas: Oh hush. Mr. Darcy: I love you. Most ardently. Please do me the honor of accepting my hand. Elizabeth Bennet: Sir, I appreciate the struggle you have been through, and I am very sorry to have caused you pain. Believe me, it was unconsciously done. Mr. Darcy: Is this your reply? Elizabeth Bennet: Yes, sir. Mr. Darcy: Are you... are you laughing at me? Mr. Darcy: Are you *rejecting* me? Elizabeth Bennet: I'm sure that the feelings which, as you've told me have hindered your regard, will help you in overcoming it. Mr. Darcy: Might I ask why, with so little endeavor at civility, I am thus repulsed? Elizabeth Bennet: And I might as well enquire why, with so evident a design of insulting me, you chose to tell me that you liked me against your better judgment.
He is not vicious, and as far as fortune goes, it's an eligible match.
There are few people whom I really love, and even fewer of whom I think well.
The more I see of the world, the more I am dissatisfied with it.
In declaring myself thus I'm aware that I will be going expressly against the wishes of my family,my friends, and, I hardly need add, my own better judgement. The relative situation of our families makes any alliance between us a reprehensible connection. As a rational man I cannot but regard it as such myself, but it cannot be helped. Almost from the earliest moments, I have come to feel for you... ..a passionate admiration and regard.which despite my struggles, has overcome every rational objection.I beg you, most fervently, to relieve my suffering and consent to be my wife.
In such cases as these, I believe the established mode is to express a sense of obligation. But I cannot.I have never desired your good opinion, and you have certainly bestowed it most unwillingly. I'm sorry to cause pain to anyone, but it was unconsciously done,
