In ancient times, there was a monster that lived deep on the sea floor for many years and crawled ashore every New Year's Eve to devour livestock and kill people. People called it Nian. On New Year's Eve, people, old and young, fled to remote mountains to avoid Nian.
It was the New Year's Eve of another year, and all the villagers were busy packing up their things and preparing to flee to the remote mountains. At that time, a white-haired old man in the village said to an old woman that if he stayed in her house for one night, he would surely drive away the Nian beast. The people did not believe it.
The old woman advised him to go up the mountain to escape, but the old man insisted on staying. When they saw that they could not persuade him, they all went up the mountain to escape.
When the Nian beast was about to break into the village and wreak havoc as usual, suddenly there was a sound of firecrackers. The Nian beast shivered and dared not move forward any more. The original " Nian" beast is most afraid of red, fire and exploding.
The next day, when people returned to the village from the remote mountains, they found that the village was safe and sound. It suddenly dawned on them that the white-haired old man was the fairy who helped everyone expel the Nian beast.

to cut a mark on the side of one's boat to indicate the place where one's sword has dropped into the river; to take measures without regard to changes in circumstances; to be stubbornly unimaginative
Once upon a time, there was a monster called "Xi", which came out every
year to hurt people. Even the Kitchen King who protected the people
could not do anything with it.
So the Kitchen King invited a prodigy named "Nian" to the heavens.
The
prodigy had high mana power and destroyed the Evening Beast with red
silk and bamboo poles which were burned in the fire.
This day is the last day of December. In order to thank and commemorate
the last day of the year, the people call the last day of the lunar
calendar "New Year's Eve" and the first day of the New Year "New Year's
Eve".
People hope that their families have red silk and firecrackers in their
hands. So the red silk and bamboo poles burned in the fire gradually
evolve into red couplets and red whips that every family has during the
New Year. Gun, this legend about the year can be said to be clear and
orderly.

According to the legend, there was a man-eating wild monster called "Nian" with an extremely large mouth, capable of swallowing several people in a single bite. This beast appeared in a country village towards the end of winter . When there was nothing to eat, it would visit the villages and attack and eat whatever it could find. The villagers would live in terror over the winter.
The next year it returned and the same thing happened. The monster seemed too strong to be defeated. So all the villagers would take their old and young deep into the mountains to hide from Nian.
One day, a wise old man passed through the village and told an old woman, "I will teach you how to scare Nian away!"
That evening when Nian arrived at the village, he saw that all the houses were dark except the house in which an old woman lived. Nian approached the house, licking his lips in anticipation. Suddenly, the deafening noise of firecrackers sounded endlessly.
The monster was startled and jumped. Suddenly he realized that the house was covered in red paper. This scared him even more and it ran off into the mountains. When the villagers returned they saw that the old woman was unharmed! People later learned that "Nian" was afraid of loud noises and the color red.The villagers came together and agreed that when it was time for Nian's annual visit towards the end of winter they would start a fire in front of every door and not go to sleep but rather make noise.
The following year, the villagers were ready for it. They set off firecrackers, lit all their lamps and decorated their houses in red. They pasted red paper on the doors, wore red clothing, hung up red lanterns. They made loud music, played the gong and drums and they danced and burned the fireworks whenever Nian was about to arrive, to scare away the beast.
Nian had not come down the mountain to cause any trouble thereafter.
This eventually becomes a tradition of China and leads to the celebration for another year of safe life. Chinese people celebrate in remembrance of this legend and still continues till today!
